The rivers Carrizal and Grijalva with its impressive flow cross the city. The Grijalva River along with the Usumacinta are the largest rivers in Mexico. In the La Venta Park-Museum, an open-air museum on one side of the lake, you can admire the colossal Olmec heads and stelae found in the La Venta Archaeological Zone, 135 kilometers from Villahermosa.

Sport fishing in Villahermosa is very varied. In the Grijalba River you can catch snook and tarpon all year round, and you can also fish for machaca, crappie, gar, jacks and carp.

In nearby beaches like Miramar (1 hour drive) you can catch snapper, barracuda, bar jack, tenguayacas, catfish, crappier.
